Making your own Hummingbird food is far better than using the store bought pre mixed types. The red dye in them may attract the Hummingbirds, but it's also not that healthy for them.
Making your own Hummingbird food is incredibly easy and will actually save you money.
Homemade Hummingbird Food:
It's a simple 4 part water to 1 part sugar.
In a sauce pan put 4 cups water
Bring to boil
Add 1 Cup Sugar
Stir & boil until Sugar is melted & you can no longer see it (this will not take long 1 or 2 min if that)
Remove from heat and let cool.
When room temperature, fill feeder & feast those little birds!
We wanted to get hummingbird feeders, but apparently there are no Hummingbirds in West palm beach. We did get a nice bird feeder and see Blue Jays all the time. I also put out a "Squirrel Kob" which is corn, nuts and other things. They seem pretty happy!
